Microstructural damage behaviour of Al foams

چکیده

Microheterogeneous materials such as metal foams exhibit a strong structure-property-relationship. The macroscopic material properties depend on the pore geometry and especially strut microstructure of struts grain structure. Since structure in differs from that corresponding bulk material, it is utmost importance to perform microtensile tests individual struts. Previous works aluminium outlined scattering this micromechanical properties. A possible reason for might be micro-porosity inclusions resulting manufacturing by investment casting. present contribution deals with ex situ In elucidate reasons determined tensile using high resolution X-ray computed tomography were used study microstructural failure mechanisms foam results further proven additional experiments struts, which analysed low prior testing allow more specimens hence better statistics. Micro-porosity primary found main differences

Control of microstructural heterogeneities in carbon nanotube foams

Arrays of aligned carbon nanotubes (CNTs) under compression are known to exhibit a dissipative hysteretic response similar to classical foams. Here, we control the microstructure of the arrays during synthesis using a variable supply of carbon source and catalyst. We control CNT alignment and density along the array height, creating bands of highand low-density regions. We study the dynamic res...

Creep of Ni-Al and Ni-Cr-Al Superalloy Foams

The steady-state creep rate of Ni-base metallic foams, with superalloy composition (in wt. pct) Ni7.8∼9.1Al (relative density, ρ = 2.5-2.6) and Ni-13.5∼16.6Cr-5.1∼8.9Al (ρ = 2.8∼3.0), was measured under a range of temperatures (680∼825°C) and applied stresses (0.1∼0.3 MPa), and compared with that of NiAl intermetallic foams (ρ = 5.3). The stress exponent and activation energy are within the exp...

Microstructural characterization of metal foams: An examination of the applicability of the theoretical models for modeling foams

Establishing the geometry of foam cells is useful in developing microstructure-based acoustic and structuralmodels. Since experimental data on thegeometryof the foamcells are limited, mostmodeling efforts use an idealized three-dimensional, space-filling Kelvin tetrakaidecahedron. The validity of this assumption is investigated in the present paper. Several FeCrAlY foamswith relative densities v...

Microstructural brain tissue damage in metabolic syndrome.

OBJECTIVE We investigated the association between metabolic syndrome risk factors and brain tissue integrity, as assessed by magnetic resonance imaging. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS From the Leiden Longevity Study, which is a community-based study of long-lived subjects, their offspring, and partners thereof, 130 subjects (61 men; mean age 66 years) were included. A metabolic syndrome score wa...

Synthesis, structure, and mechanical properties of Ni–Al and Ni–Cr–Al superalloy foams

Reticulated nickel foams were alloyed with 8–9 wt% Al or 14–18 wt% Cr and 5–9 wt% Al in a three-step method consisting of (i) gas-phase deposition of Cr and/or Al onto the struts of a pure Ni foam by pack-cementation at 1000 C; (ii) homogenization at 1200 C to remove concentration gradients and to solutionize the alloyed struts; (iii) aging at 900 C to form c0 precipitates within the struts. Th...
